Colin Beames is a business focused corporate psychologist, author, and global thought leader in Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) and human capital, with a deep and expansive knowledge of these topics.
In his first career life, Colin worked as an engineer in senior management and consulting roles in the mining and resources sectors. Then in the early 90’s, he made a mid-life career change to organisational psychology.

The topic of Colin’s psychology honours thesis was mid-life career change, and his Master of Business Administration included a dissertation on psychological contracts in the workplace and the development of the Workplace Relationship Development Indicator (WRDI®) diagnostic employee engagement and retention tool.

Colin’s organisational development consultancy experience spans over 25 years including assignments in Australia and overseas, both in the private and public sectors, across a wide variety of industries.
Apart from developing the WRDI®, Colin has also developed and commercialised a number of other diagnostic survey tools (all based on a model of the psychological contract, applied to alliances and major projects teams and OH&S), and conducted numerous survey projects. He has developed other HR tools and IP based on the practical application of latest research and thought leadership. This includes a Strategic Workforce Plan Pack that incorporates a “cutting edge” skills’ based workforce segmentation tool for analysing roles, providing deeper insights into the assessment human capital.
Colin is the Managing Director of Advanced Workforce Strategies, a firm that provides consultancy services in SWP and human capital (including the measurement and reporting of the same), workforce segmentation, employment strategies, managing people risk, engagement, retention, and career development. Advanced Workforce Strategies’ client base extends from “blue chips” through to SMEs, both in the public and private sectors, including Not-For-Profits (NFPs).
Colin has presented SWP workshops in the UK (including a large gathering of + 150 HR Directors and Managers of UK National and global firms), South Africa, Singapore, Malaysia and throughout Australia.
His latest book is entitled “Aligning Workforce and Business Strategies: Mobilising the 21st Century Workforce”. Colin has also written a number of white papers on the themes of Strategic Workforce Planning, Identifying Critical Roles, and People Management Practices.
